I just can’t get you out of my head

I Can’t Believe You’re So Catholic

Telephones are part of everyone’s life: they can be considered symbols of the evolution of communication potentialities. Personally I couldn’t live without my mobile phone. My husband often pokes fun of me saying I don’t use my iPhone for what it actually is but as a mini-laptop and I think he’s right. I use it all the time but I rarely make phone calls with it, probably because I hate phones per se. On the other hand, I like them as decorative objects and I’m planning to get an old rotary dial telephone, which is part of my childhood memories.

This is not the first movie guessing game about telephones, but I published the last one on December 2011, so it’s surely time to bring it back.

As for the rest, focus on details and I’m pretty sure you can guess them, too. As usual, check back next Monday for my clues and next Tuesday for the solution and the name of the winner. I hope you’ll enjoy it! ♥ xoxo

telephone_fgg_solutionHere we go with the solution. It was that easy, in my opinion, because guessing a movie from a detail like a telephone is really hard (I’m referring to the screencaps with no actor in them, in particular). In any case, we have a winner: Alessandro guessed 6 pictures right! He’s followed by Vale, who guessed 4 right, and by Beatrina, who guessed 2 right. Thanks everybody for taking some time to analyze the pics and write your guesses down. As I’ve written above, there will be no guessing game this week, but I’ll see you next week with the last FGG before the summer break. Until then, xoxo ♥

Affairs Are Much More Exciting Than Marriages

This guessing game has been sitting in my drafts for a while. Now that the school year is over, here comes the right time to play with screencaps portraying books, readers, blackboards and typing machines. The world is quickly changing and some of these actions are more and more obsolete, but they are still going strong at school, where you write with a pen, use paper books and have a blackboard as one of your best friends (or enemies, if you are a student).

I’ll give you some help next Monday; next Tuesday I’ll close comments, publish the solution and the name of the winner. Ready to go symbolically back to school? Enjoy ♥ xoxo

written_guessinggamesolutionThis guessing game was not that difficult, admit it. We have a winner – Alessandro, who guessed 8 pictures right – and three (yes, t-h-r-e-e) second bests – Vale, Ale and Beatrina – who guessed 7 pictures right. Grrrls, you’ve been awesome ♥ See you next Friday!

I Put a Cherry on Top

Friday is not over yet, so here is a new guessing game. Don’t hate me but this week I’ve chosen quite a tricky theme – tv sets in movies. Whenever a television appears in a movie scene, the first thing I do is trying to identify the movie that it’s on, which is a sort of guessing game. For this reason, this week’s quiz has a Chinese-box structure: you must identify the movie where the screencap has been taken from but, if you want, you can also try to guess what’s on the tv.

tvset_guessinggame (4)tvset_guessinggame (5)tvset_guessinggame (3)tvset_guessinggame (1)tvset_guessinggame (4)tvset_guessinggame (2)tvset_guessinggame (2)tvset_guessinggame (1)tvset_guessinggame (3)Difficult? Yes, it is, but sometimes we just need intellectual challenges, right? My advice is always the same: focus on the background and on the setting, because they usually include a revealing detail. Another clue: most of the movies are American, but three of them are European; moreover, one screencap is taken from a TV film.

As usual, check this post back on Monday for my clues and on Tuesday for the solution and the name of the winner. Good luck and enjoy ♥ xoxo

tv_solutionDifficult, right? But I think it’s been intriguing at the same time. I’m sure Alessandro enjoyed it a lot: he guessed seven pictures right and he also guessed the programme or film on the tv in the screencap! The second best was Camilla, who guessed four pictures right, followed by Beatrina and Manuela, who guessed three pictures right. Congratulations everybody: this game was a tough cookie. Now try to recover your energies because a new guessing game is on its way. xoxo ♥

Are You De-pressed?

After dealing with themes like swimming pools, bath-tubs, bedrooms, food and jewellery in movies, this guessing game introduces a new theme, which I’m so excited about: turntables/record players in movies. If you were born in the 1970s like me, you’ll surely remember the unique fascination these objects had. The rustling sound of the stylus on the vinyl is one of my first childhood memories: my father has always been a huge music aficionado and has been collecting vinyls for part of his life, until they were replaced by cds. I still remember him listening to a Deutsche Grammophon record (this German record label is his favourite ever) of Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij’s The Nutcracker and me loving that fantastic music. As a teenager, I started collecting vinyls, too; now I don’t own a record player but I want to get one, sooner or later, so I can play my records (and my father’s, hopefully) again.

I know this game is not easy at all, but my suggestion is to analyze each picture in all its details. Most of the frames are from movies set in the past and I think the style of the record player and the setting can tell you a lot.

On Tuesday evening I’ll publish solution and name of the winner. I hope you’ll enjoy it. Good luck everybody. xoxo ♥

recordplayer_guessingameThe winner of this game is Alessandro, who was so good to guess 7 pictures right. Let’s face it: identifying the 2nd, 3rd and 9th frames was not easy at all, but he did it, so kudos to him! The second best are Beatrina, Camilla and Cinzia, who guessed 5 pictures right. On the podium there’s place for  all those who guessed two pictures right (Anna, Geakaren, Federico, Chiara and Caroline). Thanks everybody for taking part into the game. It’s great to see that you liked it ♥

I’m Just an Ex-Boogeyman

Yesterday evening I was thinking about the theme of this week’s guessing game when I read about Esther Williams’s death. She was 91, she had an amazing life and an extraordinary career, but I’ll miss her anyway. I remember my sister and I loved watching her beautiful movies in the long summer afternoons of our teenage years: her ability as a swimmer, her beauty and her grace were so sparkling that you couldn’t help but admire her. This sad event convinced me to devote this guessing game to one element which was never missing in Williams’s movies – a swimming pool. She danced and swam in majestic and huge swimming pools, while my selection of film frames includes different types of pools, but still. I hope you’ll appreciate this small token of gratitude to an actress who brought glamour and the love for swimming into my life.

I usually give some clues on Monday, but I want to give you one right now: most of the frames are from movies, but one is from a tv series. Remember that you can leave your guesses in the comments until Tuesday night; you can also ask me some help, so check back to read my suggestions. Enjoy the game and have a great week-end! xoxo ♥

solution_poolguessinggameThis time the winner is Kit, who guessed 8 pictures right! Excellent result. The second best is Alessandro, who guessed 7 pictures right, followed by Cinzia and Manuela – both of them guessed 4 frames right. Thanks everybody for taking part into the game and see you next Friday with a new movie quiz.

You Got Any Biscuits Over There?

This is not the first menagerie-themed quiz in the history of my Friday Guessing Game, but it’s been a while since I last devoted one to animals in movies, so it’s time for another one. Whether you’re animal lovers or not, I hope you’ll enjoy it ♥

In the meantime, you can try to identify the frames and leave your guesses in the comments. On Tuesday I will close the comments, approve the ones you’d write during the week-end and see who the winner is. Good luck everybody!

solution

Here is the solution of this guessing game. The winner is – again – Alessandro, who guessed 7 pictures right. The second best is Cinzia (5 pictures right), followed by Raffy and Beatrina, who guessed 4 frames right. Manuela guessed only one picture right, but I thank her very much for taking part into the game. Stay tuned for next Friday’s movie quiz 🙂

If You Don’t Work, You Don’t Get Paid No Money. And I Like Money

Friday usually marks the end of the working week, but for me it’s different because I work on Saturdays. For this reason, Friday for me means one thing only: a new movie guessing game! This time I’ve decided to focus on the most elusive themes of all – mirrors. All the psychological and iconographic implications of a reflection or a reflecting object have always fascinated me, and cinema is able to imbue even more drama and complexity into it.

mirror_fgg (1) mirror_fgg (1) mirror_fgg (2) mirror_fgg (2) mirror_fgg (3) mirror_fgg (3) mirror_fgg (4) mirror_fgg (4)As usual, I will close the game on Tuesday evening, when I will publish all the comments in moderation and the name of the winner. You can ask for suggestions in the comments (which I will approve); on Monday I will publish some clues for the screencaps that haven’t been identified. I hope you’ll enjoy it ♥ xoxo

mirror_solution

Here is the solution. I don’t think this guessing game was that difficult, but it’s always hard to be in your shoes. I admit I sometimes take for granted the fact that you must have seen some movies, but it’s clearly not that easy to have all the same cinema background. In any case, this week the winner is Alessandro. He was so good that he guessed seven pictures right; the only frame he didn’t recognize is from one of my favourite music films, the biopic What We Do Is Secret by Rodger Grossman, which tells the story of Darby Crash and the Germs. Despite the difficulties you may have found, I hope you enjoyed it anyway and I hope you’ll be back again next Friday for another movie quiz. Thanks!

So I Don’t Break Your Nose When I Kick It

It’s Friday, which means another movie guessing game is on! This time I’ve decided to revive one of the most appreciated themes – shoes and feet in movies. It’s a fetish/kinky theme which makes shoe addicts and feet lovers come together. I hope you’ll appreciate it.

I’ve realized these new guessing games are quite hard (sorry, I’m a bad teacher ;)), so please feel free to ask questions/explanations in the comments. I will approve them before the deadline, so everybody will be able to read my suggestions. I hope this will help you a bit ♥ xoxo

shoes_solutionAnd we’ve got a winner!!! Alessandro was able to guess seven pictures right – an excellent result, in my opinion, since the game wasn’t easy. The second best is Raffy, who guessed five pictures right – very well done! Thanks everybody for taking part into the quiz and stay tuned for next Friday.

He’s Forgotten About the Magic Cave

When they say that time flies, well, it’s not a metaphor. I’ve just realized I started posting my movie guessing games three (yes, T-H-R-E-E) years ago, and the very first was about one of my personal obsessions – bath tubs. For the occasion, I’ve decided to put up a new guessing game with the same theme. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Monday evening: time for solutions and the name of the winner. I must admit this guessing game was not easy because some of the movies are not exactly famous. In any case, we have a winner! Incorporella complained she was able to recognize the screencaps from romantic comedies only, but that’s not a problem, in my opinion, because all her five guesses were right. Well done, girl!

Stay tuned for the next Friday Guessing Game, which will be online from Friday 17th to Monday 21st, and thanks to all the competitors.

There’s Something in the Oysters!

Last week, after months of silence, I decided to bring back movie guessing games, one of my (not so secret) passions. All the friends who used to take part into the competition were happy to see the return of this weekly appointment, so here we go with another one. This time I’ve chosen one of my favourite themes – food. I love eating and cooking and I firmly believe that appreciating food is one of the best pleasures in life. Movies sometimes give us scenes featuring sumptuously decked tables or lavish feasts; other times, the food or drinks featured are much simpler or poorer. Whatever the case, if you love movies and food like I do, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this game.

As usual, all the comments will be moderated. The deadline for your guesses is Sunday 5th at midnight (plenty of time!), so I’ll publish the results on Monday morning. Forget GoogleImages and just make your memory work!

This week the winner is Alessia, who guessed four screencaps right; the second best is Cinzia, who guessed two pictures right, followed by Manuela and Anna, who guessed one pic right. Thanks a lot for taking part into the quiz and stay tuned for another one (soon, I promise)!
