66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

The Annual Primetime Emmy Awards have never been my favourite ceremony: my favourite tv shows rarely get a nomination or an award, so the whole event simply has no interest for me. I started covering it last year because I was surprised by the red carpet fashion; thank God, the same happened this year, even if  – I must admit – I was not as impressed as I had been in 2013. Here is my list of best-dressed celebrities.

Ladies in Red/Pink

clairedanes_emmy2014This year scarlet dresses were definitely a trend. My favourite red-clad actress was Claire Danes, who got a nomination as outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role in Homeland.

Meeow!

The first pair of sunglasses I’ve ever owned were the Wayfarers by Ray Ban. I bought them in the mid-Eighties, when they were so trendy, and I wore them all the time. The Wayfarers were incredibly cool, but I didn’t feel completely at ease wearing them, maybe because they were unisex and I was looking for a more feminine shape. When I was 18, I started wearing glasses because of short-sight: my first glasses were cat’s eye-shaped, an old-fashioned model which I immediately fell in love with. At 18 (that is, 18 years ago) I first realized cat’s eye glasses were my thing.

For many years I didn’t buy sunglasses, but my obsession for cat’s eye shapes was suddenly rekindled in 2007, when Nicole Richie was spotted wearing an amazing pair of sunglasses.

It was love at first sight: this style looked (and still looks) absolutely flawless and – you know how obsessions work – had to be mine as soon as possible. I must admit I wasn’t surprised when it came out that Tom Ford was the mind behind these.

67th Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards are the first important event which kicks off the season of cinema and music awards. The 67th edition was held yesterday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel: the weather was rainy, so umbrellas were everywhere and some dresses of the celebrities who walked the red carpet were wet or spotted with rain. I had high expectations for this event, because I knew two of my red carpet heroines (Anna Paquin and Diane Kruger) were in attendance, and I was looking forward to seeing the outfit chosen by Christina Aguilera, one of the presenters of the evening.

I will put the best-dressed celebrities in categories according to the shades of their dresses. As usual, you won’t find the ones I think were the worst-dressed, because it is extremely depressing writing about something you actually don’t like.

Ladies in Peach/Neutral/Gold

Being a huge Aguilera fan, I open the post with her outfit, because she looked stunning. She didn’t walk the red carpet, but presented the Best Original Song award with Cher.

She wore aVersace peach dress, made of chiffon and leather. I love the thin chain decorations on the bodice, and the juxtaposition of different materials. I’ve always thought Christina is a Versace girl (the campaign by Steven Meisel which she shot for Versace in 2003 is one of the best ever, in my opinion) and this confirms my idea.

Make-up artist Kristofer Buckle created her make-up, using NARS products [1] and he did an amazing job. Don’t get me wrong: in my mind Christina is always wearing her trademark red lipstick, but this neutral make-up really emphasizes her natural features and her beauty. I love her new haircut, too. She also wore Nina Ricci sandals and Stephen Webster diamond earrings and bracelet.
