I know my enthusiasm about Gossip Girl is always destined to clash on a series of dull episodes, but I’m quite satisfied with what I’ve seen in the latest weeks. After a great wedding episode, I was looking forward to seeing how things would evolve and The Backup Dan [1] gave me what I wanted – a runaway bride, a Lonely Boy in a shining armour, a shady frenemy and more drama to come in the next episodes (I hope). Dominican Republic plan apart (the nth example of absurdity, a trademark of the show), I really enjoyed the storyline, with Blair who finally accepts her royal destiny and leaves New York with Louis like a sad princess. I don’t know if my dream of seeing Blair and Dan together will be fulfilled, but I like the connection between them so far [2].
As for Lily, we can see her in some scenes, but unfortunately she sports the same outfit we’ve seen in the previous episode. Funny that in the first scene Rufus and she appear (at the wedding party), they can be seen dancing to Madonna’s Like a Virgin.
After the party, they arrive home with Eleanor Waldorf and Princess Sophie: they would like to spend some more time together, sipping champagne and chatting about the wedding, but things take an unexpected turn, when it comes out that Blair has left the party without Louis and she’s nowhere to be found. In this scene, we can see Lily is wearing a beautiful patchwork coat, which creates a beautiful contrast with her chic party dress.
This coat comes from the fall/winter 2011 collection by Oscar de la Renta. It’s a metallic multi-grid jacquard bracelet sleeve threadwork patchwork piece; its palette – natural brown/beige tones – works well with the dress.
A few minutes after getting home, Lily leaves their guests alone and goes upstairs to change her shoes: she slips out of her Loeffler Randalls and wears a pair of black patent flats.
We can get a rare full-figure shot of her when she meets Lola (the real Charlie) Rhodes again. The girl has been working as a waitress at the wedding party and tells Lily about Nate, who has just dumped her, after realizing she’s got something to hide (he overheard a conversation between Lola and her mother, but she explained it was her boss on the phone). Here, Lily plays the part of Cupid: she calls Nate and tells him to patch things up with the girl.
In this shot, her amazing updo is visible, and so is the back of her Dolce & Gabbana dress.

“A Shave and a Haircut” è una canzoncina molto conosciuta in USA.. penso che in Italia l’abbiamo tradotta con “ammazza la vecchia col twist” o una cosa del genere

Il vestito di Serena è quello che mi è piaciuto di più anche se non mi convince nella parte superiore…
Certo: Georgina ha solo approfittatto del (chissà se momentaneo) “vuoto di potere” lasciato dalla vera GG per macchinare contro i suoi nemiciamici.
Il vestito di Serena mi è piaciuto molto ma è vero quello che scrivi: il corpetto, o meglio, il drappeggio in tulle sul corpetto, mi è sembrato un dettaglio un po’ buttato lì.

somehow i expected from Lily to do more than that, her dress was nice with the crystal detail stealing the show and same goes for her hairstyle but she has been seen wearing better dresses/outfits than this one, i mean come on its supposed to be a royal weddng shouldn’t be lily shining shouldn’t she be stunninG? i was so dissapointed by her coat as well.
I know what you mean, but I think her outfit was perfect for the occasion. After all, she couldn’t steal the scene to Blair, but in any case she opted for a refined and very event-appropriate outfit. At first her coat left me quite cold, but now I think it was a great way to complete such a chic (and kind of girly) dress.
Cara Superqueen, ti disturbo per una piccola cosa. siccome sei una delle bloggers più colte che io legga, e poichè hai un interesse spiccato per mode e di conseguenza usanze sociali, ti pongo una domanda: sai quando è iniziata l’abitudine di ballare, uomini e donne insieme, ai ricevimenti? Non credo che lo facessero già gli antichi Romani, neanche alle feste sfarzose di Petronio o di Eliogabalo. Però so che si ballava insieme già ai tempi delle Crociate. Quando, e magari DOVE, è cominciata questa piacevole attività sociale? (so che in Russia, p. es., è cominciata tardissimo ad opera di Pietro il Grande, perchè prima seguivano le usanze orientali che volevano addirittura le donne separate dagli uomini nei banchetti).
Domanda inusuale! Non so darti una risposta precisa, ma riferimenti a danze di gruppo (non so se solo maschili, solo femminili o miste) sono presenti anche in Omero, in Platone e Socrate, quindi è molto probabile che l’usanza affondi le sue radici in un tempo precedente a quello delle Crociate.
