Christina Aguilera’s Style: “Burlesque” Premiere in Tokyo, 07/12/2010

After presenting Burlesque in Los Angeles, Christina Aguilera has just started a world tour to promote her first movie. The first stop was in Tokyo, where she lived as a child for some years (her father was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, so they moved a lot). She attended the premiere at the Roppongi Hills Arena with the director Steve Antin and her co-stars Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet.

When I first saw the pictures from the event, I was quite disappointed by her demure look, because I was expecting something more flamboyant and eccentric. Then the dress and the styling have gradually grown on me. The outfit still doesn’t convince me 100%, but kudos to Christina (and to her stylist, Simone Harouche) for experimenting once again with her image.

She chose a Elie Saab dress from the Spring/Summer 2010 collection: it’s black with a V neckline, front and side zippers and a front slit. I like the shape of the shoulders and the tiny pleats on the bodice, because they give the dress a 40s vibe.

Christina sported her diva make-up combo – red lips and nails – and a nice curly updo. She wore a diamond ring and a creation by Stephen Webster, a Superstud Baroque Fan ring, which I think has been customised, because the one she wore is slightly different from the piece in the regular collection.

She completed the outfit with one of her favourite shoe style, the infamous Trib Two platform pumps by Yves Saint Laurent. They are a good match for the dress, but I would have chosen a more daring and original style, if I were her.

This picture is so funny! During the event, Christina was presented with a birthday cake, bringing forward by some days her 30th birthday (which is on December 18th). I like her in this picture very much, because she’s channelling her inner pin-up, the persona that I think represents her at the best. The only downside is a detail of the dress which I immediately focused on: the slider of the zip is so cheap-looking! I don’t know if it was willingly chosen, so as to contrast with the dress, or if it’s a mistake, but still it looks so out of place in a dress like this!

The upcoming weeks will be very busy for her, because the promo tour will bring her to Madrid, London, Berlin and Paris, so check back soon for updates.
