Christina Aguilera’s Style: In New York, 06-07/05/2010

I cannot believe this is really happening: after four years of seclusion and after months in which she was busy with filming Burlesque, Christina is finally back to the world! She has launched the first single from BionicNot Myself Tonight – last week, and now she has started promoting it. Just some days ago she taped VH1 Storytellers and yesterday she performed live at the Oprah Winfrey Show, at the Radio City Music Hall.

On May 6th she was spotted leaving her hotel. I’m glad she hasn’t changed her rock chick style, because it really suits her.

Her hair looks a bit messy here, but the rest is perfect. In this outfit a recurring theme can be noticed: her trademark red lips as a decoration.

She is one of the most loyal Christian Louboutin fans: she owns about 750 pairs of red-soled shoes, a number which is surely destined to rise. Here she wore a pair of Bianca patent platform pumps.

She paired black leggings to her trusty Doma Leather jacket, a white printed t-shirts, black sunglasses, lots of bracelets and a quirky accessory – a red-lip-shaped clutch bag by Lulu Guinness, so cute!

On May 7th she was spotted out and about in New York, getting ready for her tv appearance. I must say I am totally in awe of her blonde locks. This hairstyle reminds me of Christina circa 2004, during her transition from Stripped to Back to Basics. She totally owns this style, so glamourous and Monroe-sque.

What I like is also the contrast between the Old Hollywood theme – which can be found in her hairstyle and make-up – and the modern/casual vibe of her outfit.

Along with Nicky Hilton and Nicole Richie, she is the biggest fan of Jet by John Eshaya jeans.  Here she wore a gorgeous pair of Bolt skinny jeans with busted knee, in acid wash. I like distressed/destroyed jeans, but I’m not digging the acid wash, at all (maybe because it reminds me of a nightmare from the 80s).  She also wore another amazing pair of Louboutins, opting for the glittering Studio peep-toe pumps.

In this outfit, the recurring theme of the lips can be found printed on her tank by Wildfox Couture. This style is called The Lady is a Vamp, and just look at the blood-dripping fangs to see why. She also wore a black rosary necklace and Prada sunglasses.

The fantastic performance she gave at the Oprah Winfrey show came after an interview with Oprah herself. I don’t know what you think about her style, but I think she simply looks wonderful. I haven’t seen her looking that good for a long time.

This outfit clearly shows the Old Hollywood glamourous style is the one who really and perfectly suits her. I understand every artist needs to reinvent him/herself, but this look is so her! She wore a dark green L’Wren Scott dress with black leather opera gloves (stunning) and Louboutin Bianca pumps.

Ohhh, Christina has given her own interpretation of the make-up I call Berlin look [1]. The result – pink cheeks and shiny red lips – is to die for. Am I the only one to notice her face features have changed? They are fuller and sweeter.

During her performance, she wore a Chanel striped tulle coat, a black bodysuit, Christian Louboutin Supra Fifre boots and loads of necklaces. She also wore a custom-made duster ring (a creation by Stephen Webster) with her nickname on it.

I’ve already explained my opinion on Not Myself Tonight, the hideous video directed by Hype Williams, and on the song, but I had goosebumps when I heard her sing it live. I loved each and every moment of the performance, because her voice has no equals. I think the quality of her voice has changed, too: it’s deeper and more powerful than ever!

Later that day, she was spotted with Jordan at the Buddha Bar. For the occasion, she wore an outfit I don’t like much, because it’s a bit confused.

She wore David Lerner ripped leggings on fishnets, Louboutin Bianca pumps and Talita studded wristlet, a Jezebel by Jade Jagger white tank with red lips printed on it and a black velvet blazer. The blazer clashes with the rest; I would have worn a black leather jacket instead. She also wore one of the favourite Stephen Webster pieces, the Superstud necklace she also wore in the photoshoot she did for Marie Claire in February 2010.

The next steps I’m so looking forward to are the the MTV Movie Awards on June 6th, when she performs live, and the release of Bionic on June 8th. I honestly cannot wait! What about you?

[1] I call it like this because I first experimented with pink cheeks and red lips (paired to a side-parted updo) during my honeymoon in Berlin.

Source and source.

  2. Super–
that is one big coincidence: I have just seen Christina walk past me on Greene St. in Soho. She was coming out of a kids’store sporting exactly the style you wrote about (leather jacket, white t-shrt, distressed jeans and black flats). Lots of paparazzi, but they were rather polite, taking pictures from far away.
She’s really pretty (though extemely bleached blonde under natural light), and very little. Very, very little. Her husband, on the other hand, is atrocious (the kind of atrocity that makes you wish you could postpone judgment and make him go through a shower/shaving/grooming session).

    1. You cannot believe my reaction when I read your comment!!!! Ohhhh, you were so lucky to see her in real life! Christina is my favourite singer, and I’d really love to meet her (even if on the street, just like it happened to you).

Totally agree on Jordan: he’s never been good-looking, but these days he’s worse than ever.
