If I were a celebrity, I would be faithful to my favourite brands – Versace, Balenciaga and vintage Halston, of course – so I totally understand the reason why a celebrity wears, over and over again, clothes or accessories by a certain brand. The list of celebrities devoted to some brands is endless – Catherine Deneuve in Yves Saint Laurent, Nicole Richie in Balenciaga (bags), Lily Allen and Rinko Kikuchi in Chanel, just to name a few. Now there’s another star among Karl Lagerfeld’s biggest fans: Beyoncé Knowles. She has been wearing Chanel since 2007 and she is still and totally loving it.
She loves Chanel vintage jewellery but she also wears pieces from recent collections. I have added dates to photos, so as to check when she has used the same item more than once. While in Vienna and in London in April and May 2009, she wore hoop earrings with tiny double Cs , one of her favourite pieces. Chanel jewellery can put together any outfit – the simple ensemble on the left and the gorgeous Balmain jacket on the right.
During her recent stay in Paris, she wore the same earrings, adding a Chanel silver chain and rhinestone belt to her outfit – Helmut Lang jacket, Balmain jeans, Valentino rhinestone-studded bag, Ray-Ban Clubmaster sunglasses and Giuseppe Zanotti sculpture wedges.
In the same days, she sported other two Chanel pieces – a cuff bracelet with metal plates and a very long necklace with some symbols of the Parisian maison (the number 5 and double Cs).
Coco Chanel took inspiration from stars and satellites for her fine jewellery collections, and Lagerfeld paid homage to this in Spring/Summer 2008 collection: a lot of clothes were printed with stripes and stars, and many jewellery pieces were star-shaped. Beyoncé first sported her Chanel star necklace in May 2008, while in Cannes, pairing it to white trousers and a star-printed shirt; she has recently worn the same necklace in New York, with jeans, a simple t-shirt, a tweed jacket and a Chanel cable-knit beret. I love love love her hairstyle (a big bun) in the second pic.
Isn’t the pearl and semi-precious stone brooch on a black beret gorgeous? She used it during one of her frequent journeys abroad. She hid behind big black sunglasses with white details and wore a black coat. She looks gorgeous here, sexy and mysterious.
In November 2008, at a Gotham Magazine event in New York, she wore a skin-tight Rock & Republic dress and stunning Chanel vintage globe earrings. She received lots of critics for this outfit and for the (some said) cheap-looking earrings. This is a bold choice, but B has always loved big earrings and I think she totally owns this look.
In August she sported another Chanel vintage necklace (the gold one, with a round pendant) and a necklace from a more recent collection, with double Cs and colourful pearls. She also wore a Chanel tweed jacket, tight jeans and a python bag.
I love the chic outfit she used in May 2008, during her stay in France. She wore a white and yellow coat and matching dress for flying from Montecarlo to London. Airport style has never been so glamourous, because she used Giuseppe Zanotti slingback pumps and Chanel accessories – a drawstring bag and vintage hoop earrings. She really looks lady-like here, a far cry from her ghetto-fabulous image.
A few days before, she arrived to Nice wearing Chanel head to toe – she sported a skirt and sweater with striped details, simple pumps, a bag and hoop earrings. What do you think of her day-glo yellow nail polish?
In May 2008, while out and about in New York, she was seen with a Chanel tweed jacket, flared trousers and a white blouse. The accessories she added to the outfit are a wool beret, a python bag, a Chanel brooch and necklaces, plus big hoop earrings. She’s glowing here!
She likes wearing Chanel total outfits, like she did during a party at 40/40 Club in New York. Her black and white Mary-Jane pumps are to die for, but she over-accessorized her black dress, in my opinion. She wore several necklaces, a belt with a double-C buckle, leather gloves and a sequined drawstring bag.
When it comes to vintage pieces, she likes funny items. I jumped on my chair when I saw her wearing these cage earrings. Do you remember I’ve posted them when I wrote about Chanel vintage costume jewellery? The hanging double Cs are like caged birds, so cute! She wore them in November 2007 in Manila, but she first wore them in New York, some months before.
This outfit has got a Parisian vibe: she wore a satin trench, with dark pants, a white t-shirt, a beret and a Louis Vuitton bag. In this case she wore day glo pink nail polish.
At the Two Kings Dinner Party in 2008, she wore another total outfit – a little black dress with a white bow at the waist, the Mary-Jane pumps we’ve already seen, hoop earrings and a striped cuff bracelet. This outfit is perfect, youthful and fresh.
While in Paris, in December 2007, she was seen with a beautiful purple dress, a white and red belt, red pumps and a nice pair of earrings. These earrings have double Cs and light-toned pearl beads. I love this look, but I think she looks too grown-up here.
She’s cute here, during her trip to Moscow. She posed in front of the camera like a tourist, dressed in black leather and tight jeans. She added Chanel accessories to a tough outfit – chain and black bead necklaces and big hoop earrings with double Cs. She looks so natural here, with a little make-up on and naturally curly hair.
Chanel is one of the most renowned high-end brands, the epitome of Parisian elegance and refinement. As I said before, the list of celebrity fans is endless – from the official faces of the maison (Vanessa Paradis, Anna Mouglalis, Diane Kruger, Keira Knightley, Audrey Tautou, Rinko Kikuchi, Claudia Schiffer) to the regulars – Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Lily Allen, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, Nicky Hilton. Now Queen B has become a star in Chanel heaven, which celebrity will follow her steps and turn herself into a French princess?
